Article 51

2006 All Star running back Isac Roberts was signed just in time to bolster an offense struggling with the loss of
its starting running back for the season (Trevor Montroy, Ankle) and starting Quarterback (Robert Callahan,
Shoulder). The team responded by scoring 34 points after back to back 6 point efforts. The victory puts the
Patriots back in the playoff picture, though on the outside. Sitting at 3-4 (2-3 NAFL) the Patriots would be back in
the wild card race with a split over the next two weeks versus the Michigan Admirals and London Silverbacks.
THE TEAM
With Roberts resigned the Patriots now feature 3 veteran All Stars on the roster. Roberts teams up with the
defensive line combination of Defensive Tackle Brad Lyon and Defensive End Roberto Bakos to create the trio.

Bakos has continued his All Star form in 2007 and should be in the race for his second selection of his eight
year career. There are new names in the Great Lakes Region that may compete for the Region's All Star list
birth including the Michigan Admiral's Charleston Hughes. He already has double digit sacks in only 5 regular
season games. Hughes was an All American at Northwood University and has been in camp with the Detroit
Lions and has worked out for the New York Jets. Meanwhile, Lyon saw extensive action on the offensive line,
starting are right Guard for the first 4 weeks of the regular season and was limited to rotational action on the
Defensive line. Against Detroit, Lyon saw extended starting time at Defensive Tackle and awarded the minutes
with a 3 sack effort along with 3 more tackles and a forced fumble. However, he only added a half sack versus
the Renegades giving him 5.5 for the year, not all star numbers just yet. Lastly, Roberts opened up his return
with limited carries in his first game back. Then in his first game with starting unit he accumulated 152 yards on
29 carries and 3 touchdowns.
AROUND THE NAFL
If the Patriots find their way into the NAFL 1 playoffs they will meet up with one of the Region's other Division
leaders. The Kane County Eagles are leading the way in the Great Lakes Division with a 5-0 record. Last year,
the Eagles were one win away from reaching the NAFL Championship game in Florida but fell to the eventual
champion Dallas Diesels in the semi-finals. The Grass Roots and Erie Lakes Divisions are a couple games
ahead on their schedules, with the Pittsburgh Colts sitting at 7-0 and a secured Grass Roots Division
Championship while the Ohio Red Bulls are at 8-0 and at worst would share the Erie Lakes title.
ON THE WIRE
As week six of the regular season is about to kick off, the team took their last opportunity to sign athletes to the
roster for 2007. They added three new faces to the lineup:

Jarail Griffin, RB, 6'0" 221 lbs. - Flint, Michigan
Griffin adds quality depth and competition at a position that was briefly very thin with the loss on Montroy. As a
High School athlete for Flint Northern he was first team All Saginaw Valley Conference and the SVC's Most
Valuable Player.

Kendric Willingham, WR, 5'11" 162 lbs. - Marshall, Texas
Speed and depth was needed at the receiver core, along with a secondary threat to go along with Jerry Weston.
With Willingham the Patriots get a 4.5 40 receiver to compliment Weston and create match up problems for
opposing defenses.

Ryon Sargent, QB, 5'11" 222 lbs. - Flint, Michigan
The versatile Sargent fills an immediate need for a backup quarterback with Callahan and Elijah Marshal injured.
Sargent will be the back up to Jerry Popour until the return of either Marshal and Callahan opens up competition
again. Sargent was used at both Quarterback and Fullback for Flint Northern High School during his prep career.
