ISSUE INTRODUCTION
June 16, 2007

Article 49

As the 2007 season gets ready to kick off in less than a month, last minute schedule changes have arrived. The
Michigan Admirals will still travel to Atwood to kick off the season, but on Sunday July 15 at 6:00 PM now. In
another change, the new Tri-City Titans will end the regular season at Atwood on Saturday September 29
instead of the September 8. September 8 is now currently a BYE week for the Patriots. One last change is
expected with the Detroit Diesels, which will either result in a Sunday game or a flip flop of home and away dates.

With the schedule changes nearly out of the way and the scrimmage behind us, the team now prepared to enter
the preseason hosting a historically powerful Southern Michigan Timberwolves on July 7. What a great way to
celebrate the Holiday week with football fireworks on Historic Atwood Stadium's field!
THE TEAM
An athletic quarterback in Robert Callahan has gave the new offense unexpected flexibility. Callahan should get
a decent opportunity to grow through the learning curve behind a steadily improving offensive line. For the first
time in Royal & Scarlet history, depth may not be an issue either side of the line. Two new offensive tackles bring
some additional beef at 6'8 288 lbs and 6'4 340 lbs. Rookie Left Tackle Zach Rivest is slated to start, but could
be pushed for time. Veteran Dorian Ford has planted himself in at Center but 2nd year Andy Tvorik has showed
steady improvement and is a reliable back up at the very least. Meanwhile, projected starting guards Josh
Wentworth and Brad Lyon will help anchor the line, but several faces are expected to be able to spell them. This
includes resigned veteran Mark Heilborn, a former Michigan Admirals starter.

On the other side of the ball, Jeff Tody has made the move to Middle Linebacker smoothly. A leader on the
defense in his rookie year, he has transitioned to his new position without loosing that mentality. Nate Eller also
seems to be enjoying his new role as a Weak Side Backer (Will) having played the hybrid bandit position in
2006. They can now count themselves among the veterans of a defense which includes returning All Stars Brad
Lyon (DT) and Roberto Bakos (DE).
AROUND THE NAFL
Finally the NAFL alignment is secure and the 2007 season is only weeks away from kicking off. The alignment
will benefit the Genesee County area as they will get to see the first ever visit by a New York franchise to Atwood
Stadium. It also means that Kane County, Racine, and the Hoosiers will each be battling it out on the other side
of the Region to once again play for a Great Lakes Title and a potential birth in the National Championship
Game. The Great Lakes Region is once again one of the NAFL's top rated Regions.
ON THE WIRE
As we have in each issue, the Patriot Insider will once again feature new additions to the team.

Jesse Church, OT, 6'8" 288 lbs. - Tawas, Michigan
The former Grand Rapids Thunder lineman is a great addition to the Patriot Line. The Thunder's success in the
past few seasons provided Church with a great learning opportunity in his Minor League rookie year. His frame
offers him rare athleticism for a lineman which helps to make him an instant competitor for the starting rotation at
offensive tackle. He also has the ability to play Defensive End, giving the Patriots another versatile lineman.

Jerry Weston, WR, 6'0" 155 lbs. -Flint, Michigan
Though this is only the first year of the new Patriot Coaching Staff, Weston has a rare jump on having worked
with Head Coach Andre Weathers and Quarterbacks Coach Fred Jackson. Weston was an All City Wide
Receiver for Flint Central High School where Jackson was the Offensive Coordinator and Weathers was the
Defensive Coordinator.
