Patriots Go Fishing in Pontiac and Come Up Big Saturday, July 8 2006
The Patriots traveled to Pontiac to renew an old rivalry from 2003 and earned a 22-6 victory for the trip. The defense held the Makos to 3 first downs for the game while QB Ted Klopf threw for a TD and ran for another in route to the victory. DeMarkis Smith (WR) caught the touchdown pass while Clint Galvas added the other score on the ground. Smith and Klopf both added a conversion. James Hitchcock filled in for an injured Clint Galvis in the second half and rushed for 55 yards on 9 carries.
The defense held the Makos to only three first downs for the game. Ferris State 2 X All American Bo Moore had a solid debut in the Minors with 4 tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery while Jeff Tody added an interception.
Detroit hosts the Patriots in week two, then the Royal and Scarlet kick off at home for the first time this season July 23 versus the Michigan Admirals. With a 19-0 win over London, Detroit moves to 1-0 in NAFL action and 2-1 for the season. The Admirals also captured a 48-0 win against the Storm, giving them a 1-0 NAFL record and a 1-1 over all record.
Patriots Add Another Admiral Veteran Thursday, June 22 2006
Five year Minor League veteran Tom Humphrey (6'1, 240) is signed, brining in added experience to a steadily improving offensive line. Humphrey spent the last four seasons with the Admirals where he was a teammate of new Patriot Center Andrew Clark. Humphrey is expected to battle for a starting spot at guard, where he may once again line up next to Clark as he had in seasons past with the Admirals. Also added this week is Antwan Brooks (6'1, 280) from the Flint Fury. Brooks will be in competition at tight end and should push Brown and Keller for time. Both Humphrey and Brooks are expected to be in the depth mix on the defensive line as well.
7 Time All Star Catches Patriot Fever, Part of Three Player Package Thursday, May 25 2006
Alma College Football product and 7 time All Star while with the Jackson Bombers and Flint Falcons/Fury Marsu Hussey Sr. is part of a three player package of free agents signed from the MCFL Fury franchise. The 11 year veteran is the fifth player in the previous 4 weeks added from the veteran program. Hussey was an All Star selection 6 times during a seven year period from 1996-2002 while with the Flint Falcons (96-98) and Jackson Bombers (00-02). In 2004 he added he seventh All Star birth while a member of the MCFL's Flint Fury. Veterans Derek Miller (LB/DE) and Michael McDaniel (DT/OG) also come aboard after successful careers with their previous programs; both last played for the Fury. They join Chuck Toins and Anson Banister as recent additions from the Fury.
The five Fury additions are part of a group of 11 free agents signed during the 2006 off season. Other free agents include Matt Brillinski (MLB), Andrew Clark (C), and Mark Heilborn (DT) from the Admirals along with Jason Trombley (CB/RB) of the former Bay City Chippewas and Jason Hill (OG) of the now defunct Rivertown Rams. Former Patriot All Star TE Vincent Murphy was signed after spending the 2005 season with the Warthogs of the MLFA. Clark and Trombley each made the official 2006 Patriot roster while Billinksi, Heilborn, Hill, and Murphy have been deactivated. Hill was later acquired by the Grand Rapids Thunder of the MLFA.
PATRIOTS HOST MADDEN 06 TOURNAMENT JUNE 4 Saturday, May 13 2006
On Sunday, June 4 at 2:00 PM the Genesee County Patriots will host a Madden 2006 Tournament on XBOX. The Tournament will be located at Total X-Scape Gaming Center in Flint, Michigan on G3322 Corunna Road. Total X-Scape Gaming is located conveniently in the Carman Plaza right at the I-75 Corunna Road exit in Flint. This is a single elimination tournament. TWO FROM FURY SIGNED, INCLUDING 3 TIME ALL STAR Thursday, May 11 2006
DE Anson Banister and ILB Charlie Toins signed Thursday, adding nearly 20 years of combined Minor League experience. Banister was an OVFL All Star selection and a two time MCFL selection during a career with the Flint Falcons, Fury, and Jackson Bombers. Toins, a team leader in tackles and former prep standout, is also a past Falcon and Fury athlete who is a highly underrated Linebacker.
OLD RIVALS, NEW NAMES Monday, May 8 2006
The McHenry County Gladiators and Hamilton Screaming Eagles have been renamed the McHenry County Pirates and Steel City Eagles respectively. Both new look teams are on the schedule for this season, with the Eagles once again being division rivals and the Pirates hosting the Patriots in August. Each team will remain playing in their original market.

HEAD COACH ART SLEIGHT HAS SUCCESSFUL SURGERY Sunday, April 9 2006
Coach Sleight found himself receiving great news during Thursday , April 6's practice. While coaching, he received a phone call informing him a kidney was available for transplant. That evening he left by plane for Madison, Wisconsin where he went into surgery by Friday. As of Saturday, April 7, Coach Sleight was out of surgery and already began walking. Everyone from the Patriot family wishes him the best and are looking forward to having him back and healthy in the coming weeks.

Points on the Board, a sports talk show hosted by Tom Skinner on Comcast Channel 70, features an all episode interview with Head Coach Art Sleight and Direct of Operations/Defensive Coordinator Brad Lyon. The show airs March 27 (6:00 PM), 29 (2:00 PM), and 30 (6:00 PM). Channel 70 will also be home to a number of Patriot home game broadcasts starting this 2006 season.

Vincent Murphy (6'5, 290) was signed to shore up the Tight End position, where early competition had not defined a starter. Murphy was a 2nd Team All Ohio Valley Football League selection at TE while a Patriot in 2003. Murphy spent one season on contract with the MLFA's Warthogs before being resigned for 06 by the Patriots.
Patriots Announce Open Public Combine Friday, March 10 2006
Sunday, April 2, at 6:30 PM the Genesee County Patriots will be holding their 4th Annual Open Public Combine for any player (18 years of age or older) interested in trying out for the team. The combine will be held at the Inside Swing Sports Dome located at 5053 East Court Street in Burton, Michigan. The Sports Dome is visible from I-69. Get off at exit 139 and head North on S Center Road then take a Right on E Court Street.
Registration for any new player trying out is $35 to be paid at the combine in the form of cash, check, or money order. Players will be graded on general athletic ability and position related drills. No equipment is needed for the combine as this is a non-contact tryout.
