2004 OCTOBER- 2005 JULY ARCHIVED NEWS
Patriots Sink to 1-2, Patriots 14 - Admirals 32
Saturday, July 30, 2005

A 3 game road trip started off on a sour note for the Royal & Scarlet. An early 7-0 lead for the Patriots did not foreshadow expectations, instead the Admirals rallied to take a
13-7 lead into the half. Then outscored the Patriots 19-7 in the second half. Breakdowns were huge on both sides of the ball as the team did not play to its potential.

Tyi Mitchel scored his third touchdown of the season as he returned a late kick-off for a touchdown. QB Steve Guager made it three games in a row he has thrown for a
touchdown, this time to WR Mitch Hodges, but his 5th touchdown pass of the season was not enough to keep the Patriots ahead. Meanwhile the Defense which only gave up
an average of 6.0 points per game saw that average jump to 14.6 points per game.

Invasion Denied! , Patriots 34 - Silverbacks 3
Saturday, July 23, 2005

QB Steve Gauger led the way for the offense, throwing for 3 touchdowns with no interceptions as the Patriots took a 7-0 halftime lead and exploded for 27 points in the
second half. Two of Gauger's touchdowns were caught by WR Keith Gardner who now has three in two games. WR Steve Treece caught the third and Tyi Mitchell rounded
out the scoring with two rushing touchdowns.

The Eastern Division leading defense (6.0 points allowed per game) of the Patriots had another strong showing. This time, their opponent was held without a touchdown, and
have allowed only one touchdown and two field goals this season. S Time Ferguson and OLB John Roberts each had an INT and DE Brad Lyon recovered two fumbles.

Patriots Let One Slip, Detroit 9 - Patriots 6
Friday, July 1, 2005

In a very close game, the Patriots gave up a muffed punt on their own 13 yard line which eventually led to Detroit's lone touchdown. That one touchdown was enough
though as Detroit pulled out a 9 to 6 win. The Patriots led 6-3 at half with a TD reception by WR Keith Gardner from QB Steve Gauger. Gauger also had a INT along with
Keith Hradek to lead the defense. Three second half fumbles by the offense doomed what would have been a strong second half performance and secured Detroit's narrow
victory. Outstanding play by a Diesel defensive end led to a number of the fumbles.

Warthogs Name Doug Palmer Head Coach
Saturday, October 23 2004

The Waterford Warthogs have named Doug Palmer the first head coach of the expansion franchise, members of the Minor League Football Association. Doug Palmer, the
former Defensive Coordinator of the Genesee County Patriots was named Interim Head Coach of the Patriots during mid season of 2004 after then Head Coach John Thomas
had led the Patriots to a rough 1-5 start to the season. The year opened fair for the new NAFL team with an opening victory over the Tigers but the Patriots did not post
another victory under Thomas, though two back to back one point heart breakers over eventual playoff teams were included in that span. It was hoped Doug Palmer's move to
Interim Head Coach would stimulate some improvement. However, the Patriots went on to finish the year at 3-9, which included a forfeit victory over the Rage who folded.
Interviews for the Patriot Head Coach position began prior to Palmer being named Interim Head Coach and have picked up again following the completion of the 2004
season. A new Head Coach is expected to be named in the coming weeks along with a complete new staff of assistant coaches.
