Joann Lyon named MLFN Woman of the Year

Minor League Football News has named Joann Lyon the 2003 MLFN Woman of the
Year. The Minor League Football News award winners are nominated and selected
from every Minor League and Semi-Pro program.
Joan Lyon, who is wife to team President Leo Lyon and mother of Brad Lyon, was
fundamental in the success of the Genesee County Patriots. Her dedication could be
found in every aspect of the program. Joann helped organize and participate in every
Patriot fundraiser during the season. She was instrumental in helping acquire
several sponsors for the team. In addition, Joann never missed a home game,
tirelessly working the concession stand that saw nearly 4,000 fans during 7 home
games.
Joann even attended nearly every practice, helping out anywhere she could. Her time,
energy, and even her own money at times went into helping the Patriots become a
success. Never once considering herself the whole time.
The Patriots are proud to have the MLFN 2003 Woman of the Year as part of their
program.

Lyon, Webster, Wilson selected to the Ohio/Michigan All Star
Game (MI falls 6-10)

FB/LB Brad Lyon, DB Wesley Webster, and DT Robert Wilson were selected to the
2003 Michigan vs. Ohio All-Star Game at Notre Dame Prep in Pontiac Michigan. The
Ohio All-Stars took a 7-0 lead going into the half and then climbed to a 10-0 lead in
the 4th quarter. The Michigan All-Stars pulled to within 4 on a punt return for a
touchdown with the extra point falling short. A late rally by Michigan was defeated on
the back of consecutive penalties in the red zone as Michigan failed to score the
winning touchdown on 4th and long.
Northern Tier Bruin Player Dies
Bruins' Mills Collapses, dies after game

TOWANDA --- With Northern Tier ahead 31-11 on the New Jersey Terminator and 8:19 to go in the
last regular-season game of the year the Bruins suffered a devastating loss.
Northern Tier noseguard and Binghamton native Chris Mills, 26, collapsed on the sideline and
passed away at 7:24 p.m. at Towanda Memorial Hospital, said team President Chris McLaud.
"Chris was a great member of our family," Mclaud said. "He played with a lot of heart and emotion.
He was the bedrock of our defense."
The cause of death was not immediately known, and an autopsy was scheduled for later in the
week in Allentown, Bradford County Coroner Gordon Farr said.
Players from the New Jersey Terminators prayed with Mills' teammates at midfield. The game was
immediately called off.
One minute, the players and fans were thinking about the upcoming North American Football
League playoffs, for which the team had qualified. Instead, they were grieving for a lost teammate
and the season was over.
"Chris was a great person," said Coach Ryan Larcom. "He was a great football player and he
became a friend of mine. I got to spend time with him away from the field as well as on the field. I
watched him play with my daughters.
"It's a sad situation and he's going to be missed by a lot of people."
Mills, who worked as a truck driver in the Binghamton area, was having a typically strong game in
the middle of the defensive line and had taken some snaps with the offense as well. Uninjured,
Mills was on the sidelines for a rest and was watching the Bruins on the field when he suddenly fell
to the turf. The Wysox EMS crew was summoned and reached Mills within a minute, but their
efforts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.
Mills, who wasn't married, leaves behind 12 brothers, four sister, and his parents. Funeral services
were incomplete as of the press time, but the Bruins may conduct a service later in the week.

Patriots Join Krogers for a MDA Fundraiser

From 10:00 A.M until 7:00 P.M the Patriots, joined by the Lady Patriots will be at the Mt.
Morris' Krogers on 7188 N. Saginaw Street. Krogers and the Patriots are joining
forced to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. All proceeds of the fund
raiser will go to the MDA. A car-wash will be held and donations will be expected, and
all donations of $5 or more will receive a free game ticket to the August 2nd Patriot
home game. (1 ticket for $5, 2 for $10, and 4 for $20) WDZZ 92.7 will be at the car
wash at 2:00 P.M. Sunday.
Patriots O-Line Captain Mike Potter Returns to Lineup

Genesee County Patriot's offensive line captain Mike Potter returns to the lineup this
week and will play in his first game of the season Saturday against the Michigan
Titans. Potter broke his clavical bone just prior to the Patriots' preseason opener
against the NAFL power Detroit Downriver Diesels. He is slated to start at Left Tackle
July 26th, which will be the first time this season the Patriots' offensive line will be in
full health.
Post Game Meet the Team Night to be Held at Tavern on the
Green
Saturday, June 28 2003
Saturday evening, following the June 28th game against the Fury, the Patriots will be
at Tavern on the Green for Meet the Team Night. Tavern on the Green is located at
1902 Hammerburg Rd., Flint Michigan, right at the Swartz Creek Golf Course. The
Lady Patriots will also be in attendance for the party. Make plans to support your
Patriots following the 6:00 P.M. game at Atwood and party along side your favorite
players.
Mayor Rutherford and the Patriots Join Forces

Genesee County Patriots' President Leo J. Lyon and Vice-President Brad Leo Lyon
met with Flint's Mayor James W. Rutherford Friday, May 23 to discuss bringing Minor
League Pro Football to Flint Michigan. Mayor Rutherford looks to lend the city's full
support in order to bring Flint and its citizens a great venue for fun that the whole
family can afford and enjoy.
The Mayor is dedicated to improving Flint in every way, which includes working to
bring in exciting sports teams like the Patriots for Flint people to enjoy. Increased
quality of entertainment to Flint is a fantastic way to promote improved quality of life for
every citizen. It is with great pride and enthusiasm that the Patriots and Mayor
Rutherford join together to bring a new Minor League Pro football team to Flint.
